Priva universal M-Bus connection
In the past, controllers had pulse counters to process consumption data for electricity, energy and water. For example, kWh was measured by an energy meter with an alternator, which was then connected to a digital input of the building control system. But many more options exist nowadays, thanks to serial communication and protocol setups. An energy meter can now transfer a variety of measurements, such as the total energy consumption, current energy consumption, day and nighttime consumption, peak load, etc.
M-Bus (Meter-Bus) is a protocol that is specially developed to read consumption meters remotely. This protocol simplifies communication with controllers. Because more data is made available to the controllers (automation level) at the meter level (field level), the users (management level) are better informed.
Thanks to the success of M-Bus, more and more manufacturers are producing meters that work with the M-Bus protocol. Priva is responding to this development by making it possible to connect M-Bus devices to the Compri HX. Priva started by developing connections for specific M-Bus products: a perfect connection for the M-Bus meter, but available only for a limited number of meters. To meet the growing demand for M-Bus connections, Priva now offers the solution - the universal M-Bus connection – which makes it possible to connect basically every M-Bus meter to the Compri HX. This can be done by entering shared variables. The big advantage is that no product-specific Priva connection is required, as the Compri HX can communicate with every M-Bus meter via the universal M-Bus connection.

Engineering
A very handy feature while engineering is the Priva TC M-Bus config reader: with this application, the variables from any given M-Bus meter can be viewed. The TC M-Bus config reader application secures a connection with the M-Bus meters that are connected to the PC, such as to the project. The program then generates a list of all available variables, which can be saved in a file. The engineer can then seamlessly include the M-Bus meters in Priva Top Control.
To inform users, overviews can be composed in Priva Top Control that display all the different consumption data along with graphs. This data is also available via Intranet and Internet with the web application TC WebVision.
Advantages of the Top Control system
All our universal connections are top products and have undergone thorough testing. They are completely integrated in the Priva control system and therefore they all make use of the same, highly accessible user interface. Whether it’s a matter of engineering, commissioning or control, every universal connection functions in the same, reliable manner.
Naturally, all functions of the Top Control system are available to you with these connections too – such as reading and operating the equipment via Intranet and Internet connections. Measurement data is recorded in the controllers and can also be saved permanently in TC History. This ensures you a rich source of data for your analyses and reports.
